Kaizer Chiefs Causes Chaos In a Storm-soaked FNB stadium

Cape Town City were left locked outside the gates of FNB stadium in a storm soaked Johannesburg on Saturday evening having pitched up st the stadium to honour their DStv Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs.

TimesLIVE, heard from a Cape Town City source, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the club travelled all the from Cape Town to Johannesburg for the game as they had no correspondence from the PSL, informing them that the game had been postponed, as Kaizer Chiefs had requested the league committee following a Covid-19 outbreak at the club, leaving at least 31 staff members, including football players and the technical team testing positive for Covid-19.

However, when City arrived at FNB stadium ahead of the 6pm game late on Saturday afternoon, they found the gates locked and on one there let them in. The match officials and match commissioner Paulo Marques were also stranded outside the FNB stadium.

Chiefs told the PSL they could not manage to put a team together to honour the fixture against Cape Town City. Late on Friday night Kaizer Chiefs put out a second statement saying they would not be able to host Cape Town City.

On Friday afternoon - having attended a PSL executive committee of which he is a member, Cape Town City chairperson John Comitis emerged under the impression, having had no correspondence to contrary from the league, that the match had not been postponed.
