Portugal and Italy both missed out on their first chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup after failing to advance past the group stages. In group A, the Selecao finished second to Serbia, while the Azzuri finished second to Switzerland. However, due to the scheduling of their next playoff games, either of the two nations may still miss out on the World Cup.
This playoff is labeled as semi-finals, implying that a final will be held.
So, here are the two reasons why either of these two countries (Portugal or Italy) will not be able to compete in the World Cup:
1. If neither nation or both nations win their semi-finals play-off games
The play-off semi-final is a leg match, and games like this will be very heated because if there are any casualties, one team will be eliminated while the other will advance. As a result, Portugal's game against Turkey will be difficult, as both nations will give their all to reach the final.
Meanwhile, the Italy-North Macedonia game cannot be predicted because one could say Italy will win and the match will go the other way.
So, if Italy or Portugal lose, they will be eliminated from the World Cup.
2. If both nations meet in the Play-off (PATH C) Final
Both Portugal and Italy have a strong squad, so they have what it takes to reach the final, which means one team must defeat the other.
Everyone knows that every final game has a winner and a loser, and this will occur again as either Portugal or Italy will qualify.
