Gabadinho Mhango's time at Orlando Pirates has left former striker Jerry Sikhosana scratching his head. Mhango and Peter Shalulile shared the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot title, although he has been reduced to a supporting role in the last two seasons.
Mhango was a revelation during the recent Africa Cup of Nations, hitting a spectacular goal for Malawi and reigniting hopes that his Orlando Pirates career would be revived.
Mhango, on the other hand, now appears to be on his way out of the Orlando Pirates without making a meaningful contribution.
Jerry Sikhosana bemoans the failure of the Orlando Pirates.
Sikhosana saw Mhango play before he joined Pirates and was one of the people who urged the club to sign the Malawian following his outstanding performance in the 2019 Cosafa Cup.
There's something magical about watching him play Mhango has all the makings of a player who could play in Europe or the top leagues across the world, but his time with Pirates hasn't helped him advance.
At the Cosafa Cup, it was the first time I saw Gabadinho Mhango for Malawi at KwaMashu at Princess Magogo Stadium during this event, scoring a magnificent goal and he was the top goalscorer," Sikhosana told Soccer Laduma.
I told him that I hoped we could work out a deal for him to play for the Orlando Pirates, and that it might happen, but I was unhappy that he didn't live up to my expectations.
I wish I understood how whatever happened to him at Pirates was just football politics and immorality.I wish I knew how to help him; he was an asset to me, and even at the Afcon in Cameroon, he was good, but perhaps he wasn't right for him at Pirates; nevertheless, I still view him as one of Africa's top attackers.
