Chiefs set to begin crucial talks with their star player: “Will he stay or leave Naturena?”

Kaizer Chiefs have had a great pool of goalkeepers over the years that pose threats to opponents. This season nothing has changed in terms of the immense talents that Chiefs goalkeepers possess. It’s just amazing to see both young and veteran shot-stoppers fighting for the number one position at Amakhosi. There were reports concerning Daniel Akpeyi and his stay at Naturena since his contract is coming to an end. However, it is believed that Amakhosi has decided on the Nigerian shot-stopper if he will stay or leave Naturena.

Akpeyi has been one of the constant performing goalkeepers at Chiefs, hence he’s been part of the start line-up more often in the past couple of days. Even though Stuart Baxter has utilised all his goalkeeping options thus far in the current season. By the looks of things, Akpeyi is performing better than his colleagues at the moment. This follows after reports that he might exit Naturena as he wasn’t getting regular game time at Chiefs. According to, the Nigerian international is expected to have contractual talks with the Soweto giants. And it is believed that he will usher into a two-year deal at Naturena. “Daniel Akpeyi’s contract with Kaizer Chiefs is set to expire in June. The club is keen to hold onto him with a further two-year deal,” said a source talking to

According to the reports, Akpeyi might even retire at Naturena due to his age and Chiefs have shown faith in his goalkeeping abilities that he will still add value to the club. Nevertheless, Akpeyi has tough competition in the goalkeeping department as there are the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma, and Brandon Petersen. “Chiefs have huge faith in Akpeyi. Both parties are on the same page in terms of their commitment to extend the player’s stay at the club. Also looking at Akpeyi’s age, he might as well retire at Chiefs,” said a source talking to
