The South African Broadcasting Coperation(SABC) seems to be going on a very steep decline, having lost some major rights in the last year including being allowed to show only a limited amount of Dstv Premiership matches during the weekend, they have now lost one of their biggest annual event.
Earlier today the Comrades Marathon together with the National Athletics Federation and the Athletics South Africa announced that the public broadcaster SABC will no longer be broadcasting the Comrades Marathon but instead pay satellite TV Supersport have been given the rights to broadcast the Marathon from August this year and the duration of the contract will be four years.
This will be the very first time in the Marathon 46 year's of broadcasting that the SABC won't broadcast the Marathon and the very first time it will be broadcast on Supersport, this will come as a big blow to the Comrades Marathon lover's who relied on the SABC for the broadcast and don't have access to Dstv and Supersport. According to the agreement reached the broadcast will be available to all the Dstv packages.
This years Comrades Marathon will be for the 95th time and will be a down run on the 28th of August 2022. The race will start at Pietermaritzburg City Hall around 05h30 and will end at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban around 12 hours later.
