It has been reported that a DStv Premiership club has decided to sack one of their players, roughly four months into the new 2021/22 season. This follows after back and forth issues that have transpired between the player and the club in the past couple of weeks. After the struggling club in the Premiership Soccer League standings had their investigations about the player, that’s when they felt that it was ideal if they let the player go as he has allegedly brought the club into disrepute.
The former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo hasn’t had a great time at Marumo Gallants recently. As they’re in a battle that has involved lawyers, following the termination of Mhlongo’s contract by the Gallants bosses. This comes after he had a career-ending injury as he was struck by the ball in his eye during training. That’s when he lost a bit of sight and his eyes were in excruciating pain in a way that he had to seek medical help. His doctors felt that he would have to seek early retirement, as he was partially blind. However, Mhlongo kept attending training sessions as he was on a road to recovery and had to honour his contract with Gallants. Since, he’s part of their payroll, even though he hasn’t been playing any official games. The former Bidvest Wits shot-stopper didn’t want to give up on his professional football career as he felt that he still got a lot of talents within him that can be utilised by the team.
According to reports, Mhlongo wasn’t pleased with Gallants as they were allegedly not paying him a salary and medical bills. After Gallants called for a disciplinary hearing, that’s when he was relieved of his duties due to misconduct. As it is believed that Mhlongo failed to report for duty in July. However, it seems like the former TTM goalie is planning to fight the alleged unfair ruling as he has his lawyers on it.
