Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter is under-fire for his consistent believe in experience over youth and one of the upcoming youngsters has the responsibility to prove to him that he's good enough to handle the pressure of playing for a big club.
Baxter has irked Chiefs fans for his unwavering belief in playing experienced players like Eric Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso, even if it becomes clear in successive matches that the duo may have passed their prime.
Mathoho and Cardoso are one of the reasons why opposition teams don't fear Amakhosi, as they know the central defensive partnership lacks pace and therefore can be exposed on counter-attacks.
Or they can be badly exposed in a wing-back system, on transition, knowing that they don't have the necessary skill to close down opponents in the holes left behind on overlaps.
It's not only the experienced players that have been at Chiefs for a number of years that Baxter has backed but he has also chosen Sifiso Hlanti at left wing back over youngster Sibusiso Mabiliso.
Hlanti has also become one of the weak spots for the Glamour Boys, as he is always happy to overlap and leaves acres of space behind him, which was badly exposed by Royal AM.
The former Bidvest Wits and Swallows left-back could be having more experience over Mabiliso but he's prone to leaving the defence exposed and the time has come for Baxter to open his mind to a different player at that left wing-back position.
Hlanti was red-carded in a goalless draw against Marumo Gallants after picking up a second yellow card and will therefore not be available when Chiefs take on AmaZulu over the weekend looking to get only their second win.
This will be a perfect game for Mabiliso to start, given that he will have the extra motivation of playing against his former team, Usuthu, where he made his name, being one of the key players in their form of finishing second in the DStv Premiership log last season under the tutelage of Benni McCarthy.
Given that McCarthy is uncompromising in choosing his defence, Mabiliso, at 22, came to Chiefs highly recommended and has a chance to convince Amakhosi fans and Baxter why he should be a permanent fixture in that left-back position, which has been problematic for the club for a number of years.
Do you think Mabiliso is a better option at left-back than Hlanti?
