Abel Mabaso, Justice Chabalala, Elson Sithole, Wayne Sandilands, and Thabang Monare would not be a part of the team for the upcoming season, Pirates announced at the beginning of the week.
One of them, Chabalala, has recently received his clearance after spending the previous six years on the club's books.
Chabalala, who previously played for Free State Stars, joined Pirates in July 2016 but has since been loaned out to Chippa United, Bloemfontein Celtic, and Sekhukhune United.
His spokesperson, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi, confirms the most recent developments.
"The chairman (Irvin Khoza), who we are grateful to for all that has happened, has given his approval for us to gain his clearance.
"We now possess the clearance, thus the search for a new chance for Justice is formally underway.
With the intention of getting him to play football as soon as feasible, we will approach clubs, said Mulovhedzi.
Since making his debut in the top tier of football, Chabalala, a cousin of another former Pirates defender named Tonic, has made over 100 appearances in the DStv Premiership.
