Opinion - Why Liverpool Might Not Win The Premier League This Season

After the last round of EPL games, Liverpool sits just a point behind table-toppers Manchester City, with many expecting the reds to launch a strong championship campaign and potentially go all the way and win the league for the second time under Jürgen Klopp.

Liverpool has been nothing short of spectacular this season, with Salah, Mane, and Jota scoring at will and Virgil Van Dijk keeping things neat at the back.

Top scorer (Salah, 13);

Top assist provider (Salah, 9);

Most clean sheets (9);

GK with most Clean sheets (Alisson);

Most shots (287);

Most goals (44);

Most big chances created by player (Salah, 11);

Most big chances (60);

Fewest defeats (1).

The Reds are well and well on a championship drive, but they may not win the EPL this season, in my view.

The African Cup of Nations begins in January, and Jürgen Klopp will be without Salah, Mane, and Naby Keita for 4-5 vital league games.

How will their (Salah, Mane, Keita) absence affect Liverpool?

According to the statistics above, Salah has been the team's backbone this season (attacking wise). Mane isn't far behind either. Both individuals are indisputably the main providers of goals for Liverpool and would be a huge loss for Jürgen Klopp, perhaps jeopardizing his championship hopes.

Is there a solid backup option for Salah and Mane at Liverpool?

The only backup alternatives are Origi, Chamberlain, and Bobby Firmino, but all three individuals are inconsistent in front of goal.

Does Liverpool have reliable back-up options for Salah and Mane?

With Manchester United, Chelsea, and West Ham all sniffing about the top four, Liverpool may find themselves outside the top four by the time Salah and Mane return.
