Pirates looking to sign a new defender

One of the things that have troubled Orlando Pirates Football Club since Ruud Krol left the club back in 2012 has been their defence, the club's defence has been under scrutiny ever since the Dutchman left the club as the likes of Lucky Lekgwathi, Rooi Mahamutsa, and Siyabonga Sangweni found it hard to build a formidable partnership at the back which led to the club's continuous problems at the back.

The position that has troubled them the most at the back is the central defender one which has seen Happy Jele their only consistent performer over the years, having been tried with various central defenders over the years.

The Buccaneers seems to have found the partnership they have been looking for over the years, as Jele and the Nigerian senior male international player, Olisha Ndah who joined the Sea Robbers at the beginning of the season has formed a formidable partnership with Jele at the heart of the defence for Pirates this season.

With Jele in his mid-30s and heading for retirement, Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Innocent Maela, Kwanda Mngonyama makeshift central defenders, and Thulani Hlatswayo having disappointed at the heart of the defence and the club seemingly not looking to renew his contract, they might go back into the market.

It is said that the club will go into the market to look for a new central defender to add to the club's central defenders' department, and Lamontville Golden Arrows Football Club player, Nkosinathi Sibisi on top of their transfer targets.

For me, it does not make sense for Pirates to go into the market while they have players who can do the job in the Dstv Diski Challenge side(DDC).

Again it goes back to the clubs rather than spending millions on players they don't need than investing it in their youngsters, who with each passing week show that they have what it takes to play in the top-flight football of South Africa.
