Junior Khanye gives his verdict on Chiefs bailing out of City clash
The infamous Junior Khanye who was once an aspiring player for Kaizer Chiefs in the PSL has given his verdict on Chiefs bailing out of their clash against Cape Town City FC on Saturday. The former player turned soccer analyst believes Chiefs should have honoured their cancelled home fixture despite the difficulties Kaizer Chiefs as a club are facing.
Kaizer Chiefs announced on Friday 31 positive cases of COVID-19 has been traced in their players and staff and had only 13 players available for play which were not infected by COVID-19. Chiefs said to have sent their infected individuals to quarantine and requested an appeal to the Premier Soccer League to postpone their next five upcoming matches in the league.
Cape Town City FC who was supposed to be Kaizer Chiefs first opponents in the league, despite hearing the news about the COVID-19 outbreak, they honoured the fixture by making their way all the way from Cape Town to the FNB Stadium where the gates was reportedly closed on Saturday as Kaizer Chiefs cancelled the fixture.
Junior Khanye was not impressed by Kaizer Chiefs decision to cancel as he shared his thoughts on the matter. "No club must should be given special treatment", said the iDiski TV analyst. "It is supposed to be an three points for City but I won't be surprised if they (PSL) suddenly change the rules to accommodate Chiefs.
"Cape Town City did the right thing to honour the fixture and they deserve their points.
"It is unfortunate what happened to Chiefs with Covid but they should have honoured the match even if they had only a few players", said Khanye.
Khanye feels that it is likely that Chiefs would get special treatment and get to play the match on a later date, rather than the PSL awarding City the points as Chiefs bailed out and didn't honour their home fixture.
Do you think Junior Khanye made the right verdict? Feel free to leave a thought.
