Zambian goalkeeper paid a touching tribute to Hlompho Kekana, read it here

As news of Hlompho Kekana's immediate departure at Chloorkop finally sinks in many people are starting to pay tribute to the hard as a nail midfielder. Kekana has made Pretoria his second home for the last 11 years.

He joined Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2010 from Siwelele sa Masele (Bloemfontein Celtics) and went on to captain the yellow nation in its most glorious years so far. He featured 339 times for te club across different competitions including the club's continental raids.

The news of Kekana's departure was announced by the club on Thursday and it is not yet clear where his next salary will come from. But it is just a matter of time before he is whisked by one of the clubs campaigning in the PSL.

The 36 year old Kekana has been offered a role at the club as an ambassador but it's clear he is not yet thinking about hanging up his boots.

The departure caused a lot of stir in every social media platform, with one of Kekana's former teammates at Downs, Kennedy Mweene paying tribute to his "teammate" of many years. The Zambian international wrote on twitter:

“I will always miss you not only for the jokes when you were not on the pitch but also when you were on the pitch because you don’t like losing, and that’s the important thing when you are a football player.

“You must hate losing, and that’s the heart you have.

“I thank you a lot, and God bless you, and I wish that wherever you go, you’ll be a success as you were as a player."

Following his exit at the club there have been talks of him joining his former coach at Supersport Gavin Hunt who is trying to steer the struggling Chippa United to safe waters. But that is just a rumour for now. If he does go down to Gqebera he will be following in the footsteps of a former teammate, Oupa Manyisa.

This is the platform for you to pay your own tribute to the stalwart who have served both Downs and Bafana with dignity and loyalty. If you are a Sundowns fan tell us your best memories of him. Mine is the goal he scored against Cameroon from the middle of the park.
