The South African national team has a huge task ahead of them, as they’re trying to book a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, they will have to battle it out with unpredictable Ethiopia on back-to-back qualifiers in the next couple of days. However, the spotlight has been on Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos who hasn’t been pleased with certain things within his squad. As he even claimed that different clubs within Mzansi are sabotaging the national team, which shouldn’t be condoned.
Broos has proved to be an honest coach, who calls things as they’re within his team. And he’s not afraid to experience the backlash that comes with what he says to the public. On Tuesday, the Bafana coach stated that he had to withdraw the Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabiso Kutumela from his 23-man squad that’s traveling to face Ethiopia. Also, Broos did take a shot at the Premier Soccer League teams in a press conference as he felt that there wasn’t any unity between the national team and domestic leagues. Now, there are reports that Kutumela was due to take his COVID-19 vaccine at Chloorkop on Monday, as they’re slowly scheduling different players to take their jabs. However, this didn’t sit well with Broos, as he stated that Kutumela might develop symptoms of COVID-19 which will rule him out of the tough encounter against Ethiopia.
As one of the best attackers in the country, Broos didn’t want to lose his services as he might need him to bang in those all-important goals. At the same time Broos didn’t want to risk having the Sundowns star around the squad, hence decided to withdraw him from the squad. According to Soccer Laduma, Kutumela is still part of the squad and he’s fine after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. This means he will travel to Ethiopia in the hope to get a run and possibly win the game for his national team.
