EXCLUSIVE | Pirates Star Poised To Become A Top Coach?

Often times, most soccer players are able to portray traits of leadership when they are still players, which then becomes convincing that they would go on to be great coaches when they retire, considering that coaching is about man management and leadership as a whole.

To find a coach single out a particular player for their leadership role is a top tag any player can be given while still being active in the game. That is what Orlando Pirates assistant coach Fadlu Davids has done when it comes to defender and Captain Happy Jele, heaping special praise for him for his leadership role in the Bucs dressing room.

Jele who is 34 years old was the highlight of the weekend when he was honored for his 400 PSL matches for the Buccaneers, that being before they played their match against Swallows in the Soweto Derby on the weekend.

Having been leading the side when they ended up beating Brendon Truter's men 1-0, David's has come out to make a bold statement on the defender, going as far as saying Jele would make a great coach one day, something that the defender will be taking to heart as his career is nearing its closing curtains.

"Jele is consistent whenever he performs. One of his qualities is managing new players and keeping players together in the change room. He is a great leader and I believe he would be a top coach one day because when we change structure on how we do our pressing, our voice on the pitch is Happy,” he said.

Going further, Davids also revealed how he had a talk with his captain on his 400 matches milestone, believing in him that he can be able to reach a magic 500 matches for the sea Robbers next season.

“I had a chat with him that next season he could easily reach 500 matches. He is a huge asset for the club on and off the pitch,” added Davids.

Pirates is the only team Happy Jele has played proffesionally for since joining them in 2006, having played alongside the likes of Lucky Legwhathi, Tso Vilakazi, Thulasizwe Mbuyane amongst other who are already in retirement.

For most of the time when his contract would be nearing its end, there had always been talks that Jele could move away from the Sea Robbers but that was not the case as the Captain stood his ground and is now playing regularly once again for the Buccaneers.
