It's no secret that Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in a new left-back to Chelsea.
Marcos Alonso has been left as the Blues' lone first-team option in the area after Ben Chilwell ruptured his cruciate ligament against Juventus.
This month, a slew of names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Despite the presence of Lucas Digne, Layvin Kurzawa, Sergino Dest, and even their own Emerson Palmieri, no deal has been reached.
However, a new left-back was almost obtained on Friday, however Derby County's Dylan Williams seems unlikely to be the answer.
Every single thing Thomas Tuchel stated about Chelsea vs. Tottenham, Lukaku, James, Rudiger, and Dembele's move
Williams, who is only 18 years old, is expected to join Chelsea's academy, which is also dealing with a left-back crisis.
Derby is presently controlled by administrators, who are forced to sell any assets they have in order to balance the accounts.
Wayne Rooney, on the other hand, argued that the decision to sell Williams was a personal one, not one made by administrators.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is unconcerned with how they got him. The most important factor is that a long-term wing-back solution could have been found.
Who is Dylan Williams, and what is his storey?
Williams, who is described as a'versatile and explosive player' by Derby's official website, comes from the same mould as Reece James and Chilwell.
After a Covid-19 outbreak ruled out practically the entire squad, he was thrown into the first team for an FA Cup match against Chorley in the summer of 2020.
He has also been said to have played in five different positions for the Derby under-23s during his time there.
While Williams has yet to cement his place in Rooney's starting lineup, he has made six first-team appearances in the Championship this season, the most recent of which was on the left side of midfield in a 1-0 win over Blackpool.
While Williams is unlikely to be a valuable cog in Tuchel's first-team machine right now, he appears to have all the necessary qualities to fit in over time.
