Opinion: Reasons why Chelsea may be drawn against an easy opponent in the UCL knockout stage

UEFA Champions League Group H saw Chelsea travel to Russia to face Zenit Saint Petersburg in the last group game of the 2021/2022 Champions League season, giving them the opportunity to claim the group's top spot.

Chelsea were held to a 3-3 draw by Zenit at the Gazprom Arena, despite fielding a significantly altered starting XI for the match. In addition to ensuring that Chelsea finished second in Group H behind Juventus, this result also placed the Blues in a position to play against one of the other groups' winners who is not from England. This means that Chelsea could face Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Ajax, or any other team that finishes first in Champions League Group G, with a possible matchup against these opponents. Chelsea might yet face a very straightforward opponent in the UCL knockout stage.

With the exception of Bayern Munich, Chelsea will be confident in their prospects against the other three potential opponents, and given that they ousted Real Madrid from the competition last season, they may not consider the Spanish giants to be serious threats.

Ajax and any of the other teams in the group, including Sevilla, Salzburg, Lille, and Wolfsburg, may not represent a significant threat to Chelsea if they meet, giving Chelsea the opportunity to face a team that they may consider easy in the UCL knockout stage.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you believe Chelsea will be able to get past the first round of the UCL despite their terrible form? Make your point of view known in the comments section down below.
