While the return of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu is still very much of a sibkect of discussion, the club and the player have reached a decision on which jersey number the player will wear in his second stint with the Chloorkop outfit.
The midfielder who returned from Europe used to wear the jersey number 34 in his first stint with the club, with the jersey still available, the latter has decided to rather take an iconic jersey that had been open for a while now at the club.
Zungu has taken on the number 8 jersey which was worn by their legendary captain Hlompho Kekana who left the club last season and finally announced his retirement from professional football early into the new season. Zungu was also spotted in training wearing the jersey and behind him was new signing Marcelo from Uruguay who has taken on the number 13 jersey which was worn by another retired legend in the form of Tiyani Mabunda.
"We decided that the number 8 jersey would be good for me. It was worn by a legend Hlompo Kekana whom I played with in midfield during my Mamelodi Sundowns years. I'm sure he will be happy that the number 8 jersey will still be alive and it is a heavy jersey, I mean the guy achieved a lot of great things with this club. Since I have returned as a man, I will make sure that I live up to the standards of this iconic jersey, " expressed Zungu.
The 29 years old who is affectionately known as "Ben 10" may make his debut for the club this weekend when the Brazilians travel to Sekhukhune United in a league clash on Saturday afternoon, considering that he looks sharp and rearing to go.
