Stuart Baxter, the coach of Kaizer Chiefs, has outlined why opening the chequebook before the transfer window closes next week may not always be the best solution to difficulties.
Keagan Dolly, Phathutshedzo Nange, Sifiso Hlanti, Cole Alexander, Austin Dube, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Sibusiso Mabiliso, Njabulo Ngcobo, and Brandon Petersen were all signed by Amakhosi before the transfer window closed on Tuesday, August 31.
"The chequebook no longer solves problems." It's more about constructing, balancing the squad, and adding something you think you can bring in if you have the checkbook and the cash. The chequebook, in my opinion, does not solve the problem. For example, if I say we aren't getting enough crosses in and then go out and acquire a winger, I don't believe that will address the problem. Baxter informed the reporters after his team beat Baroka FC 2-1 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening, "That's solved on the training field."
"If someone takes a shine to one of our players and offers us a fortune for him, then we may have to rebalance the squad."
But I'm content working with the boys because they've been absolutely excellent since I arrived in terms of their desire to improve the Kaizer Chiefs."
