When Tlhopie Motsepe took over as chairperson of Mamelodi Sundowns from his father, mining magnate Patrice Motsepe, the 32-year-old hinted at fresh ideas he'll bring to the Tshwane powerhouse on the few occasions he granted media interviews.
The club's digital magazine was released this week by the younger Motsepe.
Tlhopie stated "three aims for management to attain" in his first Chairman's Letter, as he begins his first full season as Sundowns chairperson. Parts of these goals will be pushed by the club's former players Teko Modise and Tiyani Mabunda.
The two have been named ambassadors for Sundowns.
The brand ambassador is Modise, who played for the club from 2011 until 2017. Modise informed Mamelodi Sundowns Magazine that he will "focus on brand partnerships and sponsorship activations, as well as playing a vital role in bringing supporters closer to the club through social media and in-person initiatives."
“To be back here is something I never imagined would happen. With the club, I've won trophies and made memories with all the superstars I've played with.
“Returning as a brand ambassador is a wonderful adventure; supporters are always ecstatic when they can identify with someone who understands them.”
Meanwhile, Mabunda has been named the club's community ambassador. He will serve as a "bridge" between the club and its different fan networks.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Foundation, the club's community outreach branch, will be formed later this year, and the 33-year-old will be a part of it.
According to the club, the initiative would focus on youth, education, and sports development.
“With time, we could see a little bit more of the club being exciting off the field, trying to inspire,” Motsepe, who normally keeps a quiet profile, told City Press recently. It always comes down to using athletics to motivate people.
“I'm trying to offer an aspect that will motivate people to play the game more, and I'm really happy of what our marketing team is doing
