The Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at times do battle for players. A few seasons ago, Amakhosi signed Vincent Pule from Bidvest Wits on a pre-contract but before they could register him, the Buccaneers snatched him and registered him as their player.
That is not all. Siphelele Mthembu signed with the Orlando Pirates, then again with the Kaizer Chiefs in the same week. He played a game for the Chiefs, but after a court battle, it was the Orlando Pirates who won the case and the player. It seems like in the tag way, the Orlando Pirates always emerge victoriously.
The two Soweto giants are on the battlefield again and this time the prize to be won is Maritzburg striker Hlongwane. He is a very good player who knows where the net is, and with age on his side, he is undoubtedly one for the future, with whoever gets their hands on him first reaping the benefits.
He is a very talented young man, and Maritzburg United is not going to let him go cheaply, so the two Soweto Giants would have to compete financially, and Amakhosi would not let it pass so easily this time, given that they desperately need good players for next season.
