Confirmed || Sundowns R11.5-million Rated Attacker Is Struggling At The Club.
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena confirmed to the media that one of the attackers is currently struggling at the club to find the satisfactory amount of game-time, as injuries is keeping him from being part of the squad which is set to challenge for the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League titles.
Mamelodi Sundowns has been the dominant South African football club this season across all competitions to date, as they've reached the quarter-finals of both the CAF Champions League and the Nedbank Cup, whilst they sitting top in the DStv Premiership with a double figures gap, and with a MTN8 title behind their name already for the season.
Mamelodi Sundowns has a star cast of talented players in their squad, but attacker Gift Motupa has been watching the majority of the club's success from the sidelines. According to reports, Motupa is out due to injury and that's the reason he's been struggling to find game-time with the club.
Motupa's injuries has seen him make only three DStv Premiership appearances for the club this season which is bad for him as he already made eight appearances last season which takes him to only 11 league appearances with the reigning league champions in two seasons.
With a market value of 725 thousand euros (R11.5-million) according to tranfermarkt, a player like Motupa is not expected to make so little appearances per season, but what else can a club do when injuries is keeping a player from the pitch. But despite that, Motupa is hoping to make a return to the pitch before the current season conclude, as he could still be part of some of the competitions Sundowns is hoping to win.
"Gift is injured. He is struggling a little bit with injuries. He's a bit unfortunate. Every time we try to integrate him into the team, there is a set back from a muscular perspective and there becomes some sort of complications. I am sure he will bounce back stronger and come back to assist us in the last stretch," Mokwena told the media.
