Barcelona manager Matteo Alemani has confirmed the club will have the number 9 next season as they continue their association with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

Xavi Hernandez has steered Barcelona in the right direction since taking charge from Ronald Koeman in November last year as they look on course to finish in the top four.

The Catalans strengthened their squad significantly in the January transfer window after acquiring Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on permanent deals, while Adama Traore was loaned out by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, the club appear to have ruled themselves out of the competition for Mbappe and Haaland after Alemani revealed Aubameyang would be their main striker next season.

"Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be Barcelona's No.9 next season," the Sun newspaper reported.

"We are more than happy with Oba and his performance."

He added: "I'm not talking about players who have a contract with other clubs, that's not our approach. We monitor all market-related situations.

"The nine for next year is Aubameyang and from there we will be watching for any opportunities."
