Will Benni make winning start with Man United on Sunday? Read below

Benni <a class=McCarthy"/>After it was formally announced last weekend that manager Erik ten Hag had added to his backroom team with the recruitment of the South African soccer star, Benni McCarthy, he has rapidly acclimated to his new high-profile position as a first-team coach at Manchester United.

Benni was present at Old Trafford last weekend as the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano in United's final preseason friendly, concluding a game-changing move that few people anticipated. United are scheduled to play their opening Premier League match of the year against Brighton on Sunday.

Although United will be at home, Brighton ended in a notable ninth place last season, thus this might be a very difficult matchup to start the season.

Even though McCarthy hasn't had much time to work with United's playmakers, McCarthy will undoubtedly have the support of all South Africans who aren't United supporters.

McCarthy recently explained how his appointment was "next level" and felt like the reward for making sure he never stopped pursuing his aspirations in an exclusive interview with SuperSport on Saturday.

Another South African football legend, Quinton Fortune, has commented on the appointment and emphasized why it is such a major step for a variety of reasons.

Benni will have an extraordinary experience thanks to this, Fortune told BBC Sport Africa. The 45-year-old stated, "If you look at what Benni has achieved in the game - a Champions League champion, league winner in Holland and Portugal, golden boot winner at the 1998 Nations Cup and Portugal, coupled with his coaching qualifications, his selection is a no-brainer."

"I thought it would be amazing if Benni was going to work exclusively with the strikers, but now that I've heard he'll also be working with the midfielders and strikers, it's even bigger for me," the author said.

The manager made a wise choice in hiring Benni because he speaks Dutch, Portuguese, and Spanish. The fact that one of their own is now on the coaching staff of a club as well-known as Manchester United, which has a sizable following in South Africa and all around the world, is fantastic because it will motivate the kids back home," he continued.

Benni's example serves as a positive example for African coaches as well.

McCarthy's agent, Rob Moore, recently disclosed how the well-known coach had to go for an interview and complete a training evaluation to beat out other applicants for the position and win over Ten Hag.

"Neither Erik nor Mitchell [van der Gaag], Erik's assistant, knew Benni. They didn't know one another well. In Portugal, Benni and Mitch had played against one another, Moore stated on EnergyFM, according to iDiski Times.

"Only Erik was used to complete this. But, as I said, it was a process. Erik had to question him, and Manchester United's John Murtough, the director of football, also took part.

Then, as a follow-up, Benni had to participate in a practice with the Manchester United U23 team while being supervised by Erik. Benni's suitability was being evaluated by Erik as he watched.

Then, there were further candidates for this position. Benni was forced to go through the procedure. It was a really enjoyable and intriguing process.

McCarthy will work with a number of the attacking players on the current Manchester United roster, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial.

At United, BENNI has received a warm welcome.

The former striker "has both the credentials and knowledge to assist in sharpening up the team's attack," United claimed in a statement released on Monday.

In need of a new addition to his coaching staff ahead of the Premier League season opener at Old Trafford next weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion, Ten Hag thought his fellow former Ajax player met the description.

According to him, there was "still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill." Benni is a person with a distinctive voice.

He has managerial experience. He was a professional coach as well as a very accomplished striker in his earlier career.

To help the Reds get ready for life at home and abroad in 2021–2022, the manager went into further detail about McCarthy's unique job at Carrington.

Ten Hag predicted that the man would concentrate on assaulting and positioning.

"I'm not just referring to the attackers; I'm also referring to the full-backs and midfielders' integration. Our playing style must be dynamic.
