Orlando Pirates interim co-coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi pulled of another questionable decision during their goalless draw against Baroka FC. As they substituted their striker Kwame Peprah, even though there was hope that he will continue in the second half and try to trouble the Baroka defence.
In a way that they enforce a crucial goal that would make them get the maximum points. However, that wasn’t the case since no team scored a goal and it was a frustrating time on the pitch especially for the Buccaneers. As they wanted to capitalise on their winning streak, unfortunately, it wasn’t their day. When Prepah had an opportunity to lead the Pirates to attack some expectations came with it and scoring goals was one of them. After the Sea Robbers had a look at his movements and tactics during the first half, they then decided not to allow him to continue with the second half.
Davids stated that the Nigerian forward could have done better with his finishing as he missed chances of putting the ball behind the net. He’s yet to score for the Soweto giants, ever since he arrived during the July-August transfer window. When the technical team gave him a start against the Limpopo-side, they were hoping that he will shine and cement his place in the starting line-up. However, that didn’t occur as Tshegofatso Mabasa was brought in his place and it was a tactical substitute. “Peprah did well in terms of getting into good positions and by creating that focal point, but then the touch or the support close to him was not really there… Yes, there were some opportunities that he [Peprah] could maybe have done better with but it was just a tactical change, something different when we need more movement and giving us that focal point, which Mabasa brought,” said Davids speaking to the media.
