Orlando Pirates interim co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has shared an interesting comparison between his squad and Mamelodi Sundowns. Following their 2-0 victory over Liberians LPRC Oilers on Sunday. Pirates had to travel to Liberia to face Oilers in CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round and the Soweto giants didn’t disappoint as they got their all-important away goals.
The Buccaneers feel that they’re slowly getting their required results and that has done wonders on their confidence. The Soweto giants left Mzansi last week after they had an impressive 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership. It seems like they took the same hunger and drive to Liberia as they thrashed Oilers in their backyard by two-nil in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers. This was the best start that the Buccaneers were hoping for as they’re still working on dominating Africa.
Now, Ncikazi feels that the Sea Robbers are on Sundowns level as they’ve slowly picked up the pace in terms of their play and the results have been positive too. After their unpleasant start to the 2021/22 season, Ncikazi feels that Pirates haven’t been living up to their high expectations. Nevertheless, things have changed for the best under the new leadership and they will come out of their trials and tribulations a better team. “We are [on] the level of [Mamelodi] Sundowns but we even have more support than Sundowns! But Pirates are not achieving at their best currently, but we understand the process. It’s the new leadership, it’s the players that have been injured but now we are on the right track towards achieving big things,” said Ncikazi speaking to the Liberian press after the match.
