Kaizer Chiefs will have to go to their next DStv Premiership encounter on Sunday without their key players and this is something that Stuart Baxter didn’t want to happen. Chiefs haven’t shown an incredible performance, as they’re currently fifth in the log standings with 19 points after 12 matches. Meanwhile, their opponents are in 15th position with eight points after 11 games. This Soweto Derby between Chiefs and Swallows FC is expected to be tactical since both teams wouldn’t want to lose to each other.
The Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has admitted that they have Covid-19 cases within their camp. He didn’t clarify if it’s the latest variant or not. Nevertheless, the Briton didn’t feel that this will be an issue against the Dube Birds as they have a superb squad that’s more than capable of winning games. Also, Baxter stated that Amakhosi has players that are serving their suspensions, meanwhile, others are nursing their injuries. All of this is part of football and Baxter has stated that they cannot use it as an excuse to not go all out against Brendon Truter’s men. “We have a few cases of Covid and the suspensions [of Njabulo Blom and Cole Alexander]. In addition, we have the normal injuries that everyone else has. Does that mean that we have an excuse to have a day off against Swallows? Certainly not, we will put out a team that will win the game,” said Baxter speaking to the Chiefs media department.
The great thing is that the Soweto Derby hasn’t been postponed and it will still take part at the Dobsonvilled Stadium on Sunday. The Glamour Boys will miss their regular player Njabulo Blom who has accumulated a lot of yellow cards, meanwhile, Cole Alexander will serve his two-match suspension after he got a red card against AmaZulu FC on Wednesday.
