Many football fans in this country or abroad are probably still confused about how their favorite clubs they support dearly makes its money or how its able to pay off mammoth salaries.

01. Broadcasting Matches

Broadcasting stations always bid huge sums of money for the rights to broadcast football matches live. For instance, in South Africa, Multichoice's Dstv owns the rights to cover the PSL. 

02. Ticket Sales

When a Kaizer Chiefs play at home, tickets are sold to everyone who enters the stadium that day. In SA stadiums, tickets normally costs around R40.00.

During Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium, it's gonna be R40 x 90 000 = R3,6million.

03. Sponsorships

Many companies are always willing to pay huge amounts of money just to associate themselves with the Kaizer Chiefs brand, because it has so many supporters, who are willing to buy everything they are selling.

For instance, Kaizer Chiefs has over 9 sponsors, this includes Vodacom, Nike, Toyota etc. 

04. Selling Merchandise

There's a higher probability that when you walk in any South African mall, you'll see someone wearing their favourite team's shirts. With that said, clubs make money from selling merch at different retail stores.

05. Trading Players

When a football player from a small club is hot enough, Kaizer Chiefs or any loaded big club, will come looking for them with millions, ready to buy them.

06. Competition Participation

Lastly, all the 16 clubs in PSL participate in different cup competitions throughout the season. This includes MTN Top 8, Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout

These 4 competition comes with their own prize money. The higher the league finish position, the higher the money.
