Former Mamelodi Sundowns Defender Vuyo Mere was written off years ago as many fans thought his career was done when they failed to save Platnum Stars. Mere is a well known South African professional football player who is currently playing for the Soweto giants, Izinyoni , The Dube birds, Swallows Football Club as a defender.
Watching him playing you would be surprised that he is turning 36-year old this year! Vuyo was born in Bloemfontein, Free-State. He then kicked off his career with Manguang united and also played for the historical Hellenic FC during his youth days.
He was then promoted in 2001 to the Hellenic Football Club. Mere managed to play or make 34 appearances in just three years in Cape Town. After those years at Hellenic FC, he was seen and signed by Mamelodi Sundowns. He eventually joined them in 2004 as he moved to Pretoria.
Mere is already respected as the legend of Amasandawana as he produced 136 appearances, unfortunately he only scored just one goal. After spending seven years in Pretoria he only scored once. The Bloem born defender left the Brazilians for Platinum stars where he made 184 appearances.
