Watch: Akpeyi continues to train with Greg Etafia

Going into the off-season Kaizer Chiefs Football Club promised their supporters and lovers that the club will bring about the changes the fans have been calling for since winning the league back in the season 2014/2015, as the club has been able to deliver the success the fans have got used to in the 52 years of existence of the club in the last seven-plus years.

Following the sacking of Stuart Baxter towards the end of last season, the club decided to give his former assistants, Arthur Zwane and Dillion Sheppard the job on an interim basis before permanently making Zwane the head coach and Sheppard his assistant for the next three seasons late May 2022.

The move was followed by the duo alongside the club's Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jnr deciding to bring in seven new players, promote Mduduzi Shabalala, transfer-list Agay Akumu, and show 11 first-team players and goalkeeper coach, Lee Baxter the exit door.

Among the 11 players who were shown the exit door is Daniel Akpeyi, who joined the Amakhosi family back in 2018 from Chippa United Football Club after the injury to Itumeleng Khune forced the club to go into the market in search of a new goalkeeper.

The 35-year-old Nigerian international's time at Naturena was a successful one despite not winning a trophy, as most of the time he managed to singlehandedly win matches for the club.

During this off-season, the shot-stopper has brought in former Moroka Swallows Football Club goalkeeper, Greg Etafia to help him to stay fit while looking for a new club to join, and the two were again at it, as Akpeyi shared a video clip of their intense session on his Instagram account, @danielakpeyi.

I just love how professionally Akpeyi is handling his situation, as many people his age would have called time on their career the moment Chiefs released them.

But he is soldiering on and continuing to fight which is a good trade to have in this sport.
