Referees make mistakes every now and then, the DStv Premiership referees are consistently making mistakes since the league kicked off, they have just been off the mark. Teams are losing games wrongfully just because of the referee's mistakes.
It seems we will never go a week without talking about what the referee's did or what they did not do after the match, what is more disturbing is in many cases, the mistakes influences the outcomes of the game, and that is not good news when it comes to the standard of referring in the country.
The league is trying its very best to have the men in the middle controlled as they have already suspended the current referee of the year Jelly Chavani for his mistake when he failed to award Orlando Pirates a penalty when they played against Swallows FC.
Over the weekend during the derby, the referee of the Luxolo Badi also failed to award the Buccaneers a penalty yet again when Njabulo Blom clearly handled Vincent Pule inside the penalty box, and he waved play on.
On Sunday, Tebogo Langerman scored a rocket from what looks like an Offside position, no flag was raised, but the goal was disallowed and deemed to be offside, why the flag was not raised, nobody knows, how the goal was disallowed, nobody knows.
In the same week on Tuesday, the match official who officiated the game between. Amazulu and Bloemfontein Celtic awarded a penalty to Usuthu after their striker Mulenga was brought down on the edge of the box, outside the box to be exact.
On another day, Mamelodi Sundowns were saved some blushes when the assistant referee who was in charge of the line on that day save Sundowns when he incorrectly raised his flag flagging a Bloemfontein Celtic player Offside after the ball had found the back of the net, the assistant referee ignored the Sundowns defender who was right In front of him.
In the same evening, the referee allowed play to continue when there were two balls on the field, that was after the ball went out for a throw in for Arrows, Arrows player took the ball that was nearer to the action and threw it in while the other ball was still in the field, that resulted in Abafana Be S'thende's goal.
Pirates went on to lose that game by 2-O, It all started from an incident where there were two balls in the field.
There has been some dubious decisions that have cost the teams points which could have been avoided, but because of Human errors which the South African Football Association referees are committing these days, it is becoming a norm for such things to happen.
Unless something drastic is done, the standard of refereeing in our country try will never improve, instead it will keep going down rapidly.
Perhaps all the stakeholders will agree that it is time to introduce the Video Assistant Referee, this could be the only thing that will solve the current situation which we have on our hands, unless otherwise, we will keep complaining and nothing will change, teams will lose game which the results could have been different.
