A FLU OUTBREAK HAS HIT THE DOWNS IN PREPARATION FOR THE MATCH AGAINST THE ROYAL AM.
Following the abandonment of their encounter against Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday due to the inclement circumstances, Mamelodi Sundowns have stated that they have experienced a "outbreak of illness" within the team.
After 24 minutes of play, the referee decided to call off the match, and it will now be played again on Monday at 15:00.
The club acknowledged on Monday that there has been an outbreak of influenza, and as a result, Masandawana may be forced to field a makeshift XI.
Following the postponement of Mamelodi Sundowns' DSTV Premiership match at Chatsworth Stadium due to rain, the club announced in a statement that it has experienced an outbreak of flu that has affected the majority of its players. "The Club has experienced an outbreak flu which has affected the majority of its players," the club said.
"In light of the fact that the symptoms are of a respiratory nature and that practically the whole team is affected, the club is making sure that all of the required precautions are taken to protect the players as well as everyone else with whom they come into contact both on and off the field.
"The players are being tested for the full flu-panel that includes influenza, COVID-19, and RSV PCR in order to determine the precise source of the symptoms," Dr. Carl Tabane, the team doctor for Mamelodi Sundowns, stated. "The tests will determine whether the players have influenza, COVID-19, or RSV." In recent weeks, the country has seen an overlap in all three of these viruses. Due to the fact that they display similar signs and symptoms, it is imperative that we carry out the testing as soon as possible. We are continuing to take all of the essential safety measures."
As the 2021/22 DSTV Premiership comes to a conclusion this afternoon, the club is resolute in its intention to play with the best team that is now available.
