In modern football, DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs have always been known for their never ending ability to churn out trophies each and every season.
However, since the 2015/16 season the Naturena based outfit have experienced a barren, their longest trophyless run in the PSL era.
On Sunday retired Kaizer Chiefs defensive midfielder Derrick Spencer who enjoyed a successful four year spell at the club between 2004 and 2008 has taken a trip down memory lane to an era where Amakhosi were known as cup specialists. During that period Derrick Spencer played under the tutelage of renowned coaches such as Ted Dumitru, Enerst Middendorp and Kosta Papic.
Taking to the popular platform the 40 year old KZN born retired footballer took to his Instagram account to share a picture where he was captured alongside Emmanuel Ngobese, Siphiwe Mkhonza, Collins Mbesuma, Nhlanhla Kubheka and Lucky Mzizi. On the day Derrick Spencer would then go to caption the shared picture with, "#tb @kcfcofficial", followed by a victory emoji which is closely associated with Kaizer Chiefs.
In the comment section a number of football fans and even renowned radio and television presenter MC Tshatsha were all of the view that this group of players were capable of achieving the impossible.
Meanwhile, during his four year spell at Kaizer Chiefs, Derrick Spencer had the privilege of winning atleast five domestic silverwares including a league title in the 2004/05 season. Following his exit at the club, the former Kaizer Chiefs jersey number 20 earned a lucrative move where he went to join their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns where his spent atleast two seasons.
During his two year spell at Mamelodi Sundowns, the former Kaizer Chiefs defensive midfielder later reunited with the late Romanian football manager Ted Dumitru. With that much said Derrick Spencer is one of the few footballers in the country who made a direct transfer from Kaizer Chiefs to Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL era.
