The former Bafana Bafana key player Steven Pienaar has started his coaching career superbly. As he led his charges to an impressive victory this past weekend. This is something that has put a smile on his face and hopes that his players can take the same form to their next match. As that will give them a chance to challenge for trophies and groom young talent.
Pienaar has been tasked with one of the crucial occupations at Ajax Amsterdam, as he’s the interim head coach for their Under-18 side. On his first friendly match in charge, he led the Dutch club to a 3-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar. Any win matters though and as a coach, surely Pienaar had a chance to see where he needs to on with his technical team. The goals were scored by Rida Chahid, Raphael Sarfo and Jay Enem, as they made sure that Ajax win comfortably over AZ. Pienaar’s young side dominated the friendly match, hence, they were able to be rewarded with the goals. They were also patient in terms of their build-up as they knew that they can break the defence of AZ and it was a matter of time.
The former South Africa international will remain in charge of the Ajax youngsters since the club has confirmed if he will take over the position permanently or not. Initially, Pienaar served as an assistant coach to Dave Vos who recently left the club to join Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s backroom staff at Rangers. The exit of Steven Gerrald at Rangers opened the way for Vos to move away from Ajax Under-18’s. By the looks of things, the 39-year-old former attacker is marked as an ideal replacement for Vos, however, only time will tell.
