Southampton beat Astonvilla 1-0 in the English Premier League yesterday. Armstrong scored the game's sole goal in the third minute of the first half.
Southampton have now picked up 10 points from their last four Premier League matches after a rocky start to the season.
The home team seized the lead early in the game when Adam Armstrong shot a rebound past Emiliano Martinez and into the net.
Dean Smith's team rallied back in the second half to level, but they lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.
Southampton deserved their one-point lead over Aston Villa. The latter were threatening on counter-attacks, but they couldn't get to the back of the net.
Danny Ings, a former Southampton player, lacked the team's creativity and attacking flair.
After yesterday's game, the English Premier League table is as follows.
