Lerato Chabangu is former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana international midfield player. Nicknamed all you need is love , Chabangu is considered by many to be one of greatest natural gifted player ever produced in South Africa. In his prime he was an unstoppable midfield dynamic with his pace and silk dribbling skills he was every defender's worst nightmare. Chabangu had a colorful career spanning for over a decade. He represented clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns , Supersport United , Moroka Swallows and Chippa United and he was also a regular for the national team.
He is a highly decorated ex-player as he won many Championships with Mamelodi Sundowns. However life is no longer the same after retirement from football as he is alleged to be struggling financially. The most difficult thing about soccer players is that football is a short term career whereby players normal retire at the age 35. So to imagine you are 35 year old retired your footballing career is over , and now you are back to the world outside of football trying to figure out a new occupation. Most ex-players don't know anything about investing their money , they start looking for jobs with no formal education no experience or skills. Life can be real tough out there.
However the optimistic approach is that just because the playing days are over that doesn't necessarily mean it's all over , some come back as soccer coaches and some as agents. There is a lot of things to do and I'm sure their former clubs will be always willing to assist their former players. We saw Junior Khanye and Jabu Mahlangu who were at some alleged to struggling financially , but turned their lives around as they returned to football as pundits what they call soccer analysts. Chabangu can still make a come back as a pundit or a commentator , he can even become a coach. However if those allegations are true I strongly believe Chabangu will come back stronger considering that he has quite a very impressive resume.
