Italian-born Super Eagles player corrects a fan who told him to learn the Yoruba Language
One positive aspect of FIFA's eligibility rules is that they allow footballers to represent the country of their ancestors in international competition. In other words, it makes no difference whether or not a player of Nigerian heritage was born in Europe; if he wishes to represent the Super Eagles, he can do so.
If it weren't for this fair rule, players like Calvin Ughelumba Bassey would not be able to represent Nigeria at the international level. In addition to being of Nigerian origin, he was born in Italy and raised in England. Nigeria is the first international team for which he will appear, and he is bringing a high level of quality to the defense, since he is capable of playing both left and center back.
Because he is new, many people are unaware of some of his characteristics, and some are simply making educated guesses. He received advice from a follower on Instagram, who assumed he was from the country's southernmost region and recommended him to learn the Yoruba language.
Calvin is very aware of his heritage; he graciously corrected the fan and boldly declared, "I AM IGBO, BRO." Calvin is a valuable asset to the Super Eagles because he is still young. As long as he works hard and is consistent, he will have many more years to contribute to the Super Eagles' success.
