Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Steve Komphela has brushed off recent reports that he had yet another fight with a colleague. Komphela has dismissed the reports as nothing but pressures of a heated match. Yesterday, Komphela's side, Mamelodi Sundowns beat Soweto side, Orlando Pirates 0-2 at the Orlando Stadium and this did not sit well with Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi, who took it up with the opposition bench.
Komphela and Ncikazi were caught up exchanging some words live on tv but according Komphela, this was nothing.
"Ke Auti ya ka ela. We’re tight like that. It was the match emotions mara we spoke after the match. Mandla is an intense General and highly competitive and knows rules of engagement(ROE) in wartime. There’re parameters, crucial ones we always must uphold, he does that so well," said Komphela in a tweet on Sunday afternoon.
Komphela added that the relationship he and Ncikazi is that of brothers. "It was nothing in fact. It was our usual chitchat. Really nothing. Mandla is my Brother. I go to Mandla’s house and open the fridge and drink from the bottles while standing by the fridge door and walk away with a slice of cheese as I leave his door opened," he concluded.
Komphela and Ncikazi worked together as head coach and assistant coach at Golden Arrows before Kophela joined Mamelodi Sundowns. Ncikazi joined Pirates earlier at the start of the season.
Komphela was broiled in a heated tiff with fellow coach at Sundowns, Manqoba Mngqithi earlier this month. Although Sundowns moved to squash these alleged rumours, they failed to share why the two were beefing.
Steve Komphela is a South African football manager and a former footballer and teacher. He is the former manager of Maritzburg United, Kaizer Chiefs, and Bloemfontein Celtic. He is arguably one of greatest managers in South African history. He is currently managing Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League
