Junior Khanye, a former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the coaching situation at Orlando Pirates, claiming that the duo of Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids does not work well together.
Following the departure of Josef Zinnbauer before the start of the first DStv Premiership game, the two tacticians were appointed as co-caretaker coaches.
At this point, the Buccaneers have not recruited a new coach, opting to leave the two in place as co-caretakers. However, Khanye believes that the team should consider hiring a new coach if it wants to be successful in the future.
As Khanye wrote in his weekly piece for the iDiski Times, "many have been asking me if I support Mandla Ncikazi to be the Pirates' long-term coach."
"The reality is that Pirates, for the first time in their history, displayed a sense of elegance against Royal AM last week." They had the appearance of a team with a distinct identity.
'I congratulated Mandla Ncikazi because that is exactly how his Golden Arrows played last season: they throw the ball around, they are unpredictable, and they place an emphasis on movement off the ball.
"I was pleased with what I witnessed during that game" (against Sekhukhune United). Does this imply that I want Mandla to be the Pirates' full-time coach?
At the moment, Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids are serving as co-assistant coaches for the club. Who are the assistant coaches to? Allow me to begin by once again addressing Fadlu directly.
"I used to play football with him at Maritzburg United. Personally, I think he's a good guy, but as I've already stated, he's had his chance under Josef Zinnbauer.
"If you take a look at the players that Pirates have recently signed, it is apparent that Fadlu played a role in their selection. All of the players who played under Fadlu at Maritzburg, including Fortune Makaringe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, and Richard Ofori, have always been given a chance at Pirates."
Afterwards, the football analyst suggested that the Pirates should hire former TS Galaxy head coach Dan Malesela or Cavin Johnson to take over as head coaches for the team.
The coach indicated he would either ask Dan "Dance" Malesela to be a co-coach with Mandla Ncikazi, similar to the co-coaches at Mamelodi Sundowns, or he would hire Mandla Ncikazi on his own.
As an alternative, I would suggest that Mandla serve as an assistant coach to a player such as Cavin Johnson. With his years of expertise, Cavin is capable of leading a club the caliber of the Pirates."
