This is a big weekend in the PSL for the likes of Supersport United who take on a wounded Cape Town City. Benni McCarthy’s high flying AmaZulu will take on a very ambitious and highly confident Swallows, who are yet to lose a match since returning back to top flight football.
High flying Swallows who are very confident in their abilities ever since they returned from the dead will host a resurgent AmaZulu on Sunday in Soweto. This is one of the most exciting clashes of the weekend. Both clubs have been given a new lease of life. Swallows are in dream land after being given a second chance to return to top flight football. They are a team that plays with no fear and very confident in their abilities. They have of late been brave enough to come out and say they are making their home ground a fortress and will not allow teams to get anything when they visit them in Soweto. The Dube birds have also challenged the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates saying they are not scared of them. Off course Swallows were proven to be right as they collected maximum points at Kaizer Chiefs and had to come from behind in their clash against Pirates which ended in a one all draw. The stats do not lie. Swallows are part of the pack that is at the top of the log together with Supersport and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Brendan Truter's troops will be tested by a brand new AmaZulu team with a new coach in Benni McCarthy who is dreaming big.Benni McCarthy knows the surroundings of Soweto very well, as he was part of the Orlando Pirates squad that won everything for two seasons in a row coached by Rudd Krol. Benni has also inherited top players from Orlando Pirates and they have proven to be worth their money so far pushing Usuthu to the next level. Usuthu coach recently said that he wants Usuthu to emulate the Pirates he played for that was coached by Krol. The KZN outfit will have a point to prove against Swallows, they must show they mean business by coming to Soweto and leave with maximum points. Another huge clash of the weekend pits Supersport United against Cape Town City. This is a huge one for both sides. Supersport, the home side is desperate to return back to winning ways. Kaitano Tembo’s charges got knocked out knocked out of the Nedbank cup last week by new boys TTM. They also lost their following league encounter 2-0 to Orlando Pirates . This is a fixture that the cub bosses will be keeping a keen eye on, looking at how the team performs and ready to punish those that are not delivering the results or performing at their best. Stanley Mathews has already lashed at striker Evans Rusike, telling him he will not renew his contract if he doesn’t start scoring goals. It makes one believe that even the coach is under the same pressure from management.
Cape Town City who are blowing hot and cold have remained in Gauteng as they played Orlando Pirates midweek and lost 2-0. The club recently sold striker Kermit Erasmus to Sundowns. They scored 4 goals against Bloemfontein Celtic but failed to find the net in the league away to Pirates. A win on Sunday will see the visitor climb the log from position two to fifth place.
