Opinon: Three Key battles that could determine this Weekend's encounter between Chelsea and Man City

As the battle for supremacy in the Premier League continues, the Premier League champions will host the European Champions at home this weekend. Thomas Tuchel's players will be in good spirits going into the game, having defeated Pep Guardiola's City three times last season, including in the UCL final.

While Chelsea has enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning four and drawing one of their first five league games, the same cannot be said for City, who lost their opening game of the season to Tottenham before being held to a dismal draw at home by Southampton last weekend. City are now three points behind the Blues and will be seeking to close the gap on their adversary this weekend; as a result, the game will be exciting. Because of the significance and size of the encounter, we will examine three important skirmishes that could influence the outcome of the tie.

Chelsea has strengthened their team with the signing of former striker Romelu Lukaku, who has scored four goals in all competitions since his return. While the Blues appear to have an excellent group capable of competing for every award, Manchester City, who lost Sergio Aguero to Barcelona in the summer and is yet to add a striker, cannot say the same. They struggled against Southampton without a striker over the weekend and could suffer again against Chelsea.

Regardless of who each club puts on the field on Saturday, the game will undoubtedly be exciting, and it could be decided by minor factors. The three critical battles that could decide the encounter are listed below.

1. Ruben Dias vs. Romelu Lukaku

The new Chelsea additions and the City stalwart may face off against one other on Saturday, and it will be intriguing to watch how the City defense fared against the hefty and active Belgium striker. While Dias was crucial to City's success last season, Lukaku has been the difference maker for Chelsea so far this season as well. Chelsea's prospects of winning on Saturday may depend on Lukaku beating Dias, while City will be hoping that their star defense can keep the former Inter forward at bay.

2. Kevin De Bruyne vs. Jorginho

With Ngolo Kante starting against Villa yesterday and his recent fitness difficulties, it remains to be seen if he will receive the nod to start Saturday's encounter. However, in his absence, Italy midfielder Jorginho has performed admirably, and he could be tasked with stopping De Bruyne this weekend. Jorginho's performance against the Belgian midfielder may also determine who wins the tie.

3. Reece James vs. Jack Grealish

On Saturday, the two Englishmen might face off on the left side of City's attack and the right side of Chelsea's defense. Pep Guardiola has used the English midfielder on the left flank of his attack since joining the club from Aston Villa in the summer. While Reece James enjoys bursting forward to assist Chelsea in attack, he must also be aware of the dangers posed by his national team teammates and be prepared for a real battle. If Grealish succeeds against the young fullback on Saturday, City may win the game.
