Opinion: Why Erling Haaland Will Easily Break Cristiano Ronaldo's Goal Records In The Next Few Years

Source: My OPINION

Over the last two years, Erling Braut Haaland of Borussia Dortmund has been a revelation for both club and nation. At the age of 19, the 20-year-old Norwegian got his first career personal award when he won the 2020 golden boy award.

Erling Braut Haaland has been on a goal-scoring spree for his Bundesliga team, Borussia Dortmund, since receiving the 2020 golden boy title. In actuality, the 20-year-old scored 20 goals in 14 Champions League appearances. Lionel Messi needed 48 games to score 20 Champions League goals, Cristiano Ronaldo took 36 games, while Harry Kane took even less time with 25 games.

Erling Haaland, on the other hand, just needed 14 games.

The youngster's first prize with Borussia Dortmund was the DFB Pokal, which he won by defeating RB Leipzig 4-0 in the final, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace.

Erling Haaland now leads the Bundesliga with 65 goals and 12 assists in 63 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, with only Bayern Munich's Robert Lewansdoski boasting higher numbers.

Erling Haaland was also named UEFA forward of the year for 2020 after scoring 10 goals in the last Champions League season and finishing as the tournament's top scorer, despite being defeated in the quarterfinals by Manchester City.

In the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, the young Norwegian has also performed admirably for his country, scoring five goals in just three games.

He scored against the Netherlands in Norway's first world cup qualification match, securing a point after a full-time 1-1 draw. In the following game, he was on the score sheet for his country once more, scoring from the penalty spot to guide Norway to a 2-1 victory.

The 20-year-old scored his first international hat-trick against Gibraltar recently, giving him a total of 20 goals in 16 games across all competitions this season.

With that in mind, here are some reasons why I believe Erling Haaland will easily break Cristiano Ronaldo's goal scoring records in the next years:

1. Age factor

At Old Trafford, Erling Haaland has now scored more goals than a 20-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo. For starters, Cristiano Ronaldo began his Manchester United career as a midfielder, which meant he had to assist before he could think about scoring goals.

Erling Haaland, at the age of 20, is already a well-established centre forward for both club and country, and with time on his side, it will only be a matter of time until he matches Cristiano Ronaldo's goal totals.

Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo, who had to cut from the left flank to score goals, Erling Haaland just had to wait for the midfielders to set him up for a goal scoring opportunity in the center.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men's international football, having scored 111 goals in the Champions League, Real Madrid's history, and the entire game (785 goals).

All of these achievements were accomplished when the Portuguese was in his late thirties.

With Erling Haaland only in his early twenties, Cristiano Ronaldo's goal records may be broken in the not-too-distant future.

2. Body composition and conversion ratio

Cristiano Ronaldo has 785 goals in his career. To achieve such numbers, a player must be able to score 20 or more goals for the next 15 seasons.

Erling Haaland presently possesses the physical type and goal conversion ratio that Cristiano Ronaldo possesses. If the young Norwegian is anything to go by, he may be able to continue at the top of his game until he turns 30, when all of Cristiano Ronaldo's goals records will have been smashed.

Another thing that will greatly assist Erling Haaland is his drive to succeed and be the best. The teenager has stated numerous times that he aspires to be the greatest goal scorer in history, which is understandable given his passion for the game.

We may have to wait a bit longer to see the making of a goal scorer if the young Norwegian retains this spirit of drive burning in him.

Cristiano Ronaldo has around two more years left in the game before retiring, and only time will tell whether he expands his goal records further to make it more difficult for Erling Haaland, or whether he keeps his current stats.
