Reason why PSL rejected Sundowns players and staff more time to grieve

After Mamelodi Sundowns learned about the passing of thier defender Motjeka Madisha in a horrific accident in Kempton Park near Chloorkop.

Madisha was from 50th anniversary club celebration when he got involved in a accident which claimed his life.

Sundowns were shocked about the death of thier defender who has been profilic to the team and requested a plea to the Premier Soccer League to grief the death of Madisha.

However the PSL rejected the offer which meant they have to play Mpumalanga side TS Galaxy Football Club.

Adequate notice period (Rule 9.7 says member clubs need to submit a written request for the fixture change at least 10 days prior to the game). The league has the discretion to refuse or grant permission.

Fixture changes to be granted under “exceptional circumstances

This season the fact of an incredibly congested fixture due to the impact of COVID-19, means there are even greater pressures on maintaining the fixture. Fixture changes that are not essential will place the completion of the season at risk,” read the letter further.

“Even where there are exceptional reasons the notice period is there to ensure the League is able to engage all other affected parties, hear their views, and ensure that arrangements that hey have already made are impacted as little as possible. It is simply not possible, on such short notice, to properly consider the application let alone process it. Again, please accept my condolences, but unfortunately the League is not able to postpone the fixture.”

This however means the fixture doesn't change and with the congested fixtures affected by covid 19.

The Brazilians have opted not to release a statement at this stage because of the family request as they are trying to grieve the death of thier lost family member.
