Birthday Wishes Pour in For Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung

Birthday wishes are pouring in for the Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung.

Motaung is among of the most recognised football legends in South Africa, both as a player and a football club owner.

Born in 16 October 1944 at Soweto, Gauteng, Motaung started playing professional football at the age of 16 when he was playing for Orlando Pirates FC.

He began his international football in 1968 when was recruited from team trials in Zambia to play for Atlanta Chiefs in the North Americans Soccer League (NASL).

When he returned from NASL Motaung formed his own team in 1970 and named it after his first name and former team name "Kaizer Chiefs".

Despite facing some challenges and setbacks in forming his own team, Motaung Succeeded in forming a very competitive and popular club.

Now the team has a very huge following and is one of the biggest brands in Africa.

His team become successful in a short space of time and won more than 78 trophies and gaining estimated of 14 million supporters throughout the century.

One of Chiefs' biggest achievements was in 2001 when they won African Cup winner's Cup.

Since then the club has won more trophies throughout the years and is currently a leading team when it comes to number of supporters.

It is said that the club do not play any away games because the number of their supporters always exceed those of the home team.

Motaung has been also active in the South African Football having served as executive of both National Soccer League (NSL) and South African Football Association ( SAFA).

In addition he also co-founded the Premiere Soccer League (PSL) in 1996 along with Orlando Pirates chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza and that helped bring more sponsors and money in the Football of South Africa.

Motaung also played a huge part in the FIFA 2010 FIFA World Cup that was held in South Africa over a decade ago.

Motaung is celebrating his 77th birthday today since he was born in 1944.
