“Kekana would play at Chiefs and Pirates,” said a former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper

All the eyes are on the former Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Hlompho Kekana, as his fans want to know his new home. This follows after spending a successful decade at Chloorkop that was met with a shocking exit from the Tshwane giants. As there was still hope that he will be seen leading Downs until his contract comes to an end. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen as both Kekana and Sundowns came to an agreement that they should part ways. This follows after the 2021 MTN8 reigning champions didn’t utilise him in the previous and current campaign. As it was reported that he was surplus to requirements to the current technical team at Masandawana.

Now, the former Brazilians goalkeeper John Tlale feels that Kekana still has some few years within him and can compete with any midfielder in the league. Tlale went as far as stating that he can move to Orlando Pirates and even Kaizer Chiefs. The 36-year-old veteran midfielder still wants to play professional football, as he feels he still has some years left within him. Maybe, Kekana can still be part of the top-flight until in his late 40s. Looking at Chiefs, they’ve started a trend of getting the services of former Downs players such as Khama Billiat, Ramahlwe Ramphahle, Keagan Dolly, and Leonardo Castro. Who knows maybe the Downs legend might want to join his former teammates. “He can play even for Chiefs, Pirates, Swallows, SuperSport, you name them. He would play at Chiefs and Pirates,” said Tlale talking to

Furthermore, Tlale felt that Kekana shouldn’t settle for less, as in being part of the struggling teams. He felt that Kekana has shown the importance of longevity in football and remaining focused on your craft.

“He can still play for another three years as he’s disciplined, and he’s very unique… If I has a club I would have given him two years. He’s a workaholic, let me be honest. I hope he will find a good team,” said Tlale talking to the media.
