Update: Sundowns Beat Sekhukhune, Galaxy & City Draw

Two DStv Premiership matches were played on Saturday afternoon, with Mamelodi Sundowns defeating Sekhukhune United 2-0 and TS Galaxy and Cape Town City drawing 2-2, both at Loftus Versfeld.

Sundowns' victory over Sekhukhune United lifts them to 30 points, putting them nine points clear at the top of the table after the first round.

Sekhukhune United were defeated 2-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Despite finishing the game with 10 men, Sundowns managed to score a goal in each half as they defeated Sekhukhune 2-0 at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

It was the first ever encounter between Sundowns and Sekhukhune, who were only created a year ago and were promoted to the Premier League after winning the GladAfrica Championship the previous season.

Haashim Domingo's long-range effort sailed wide in the eighth minute, while Pavol Safranko couldn't keep his long-range effort down in the 15th minute, and it flew over the crossbar. Neo Maema missed the target with a shot that was barely wide and over a minute later.

Maema was not to be denied as he scored from close range in the 20th minute for his third goal of the season and second in as many games. Almost immediately after that, Peter Shalulile found himself in the box, but his shot lacked force, and Toaster Nsabath saved it comfortably to prevent a second goal.

Domingo missed the target with his second attempt in the 29th minute, while Grant Kekana missed the target with his attempt in the 36th minute.

At halftime, Sundowns led 1-0, and the momentum carried over into the second half in a similar fashion as well.

In the 58th minute, Sundowns were granted a penalty when Nyiko Mobbie was severely ruled to have handled the ball in the box. The penalty was converted. Themba Zwane took the opportunity to score and made no mistake to make it 2-0.

Despite the fact that Denis Onyango didn't have much to do during the match, the Ugandan veteran did an amazing job in the 77th minute when he was called upon to make a save from Cheslyn Jampies' long range attempt. A minute later, Sundowns' substitute Kermit Erasmus hit the post with a shot that was barely wide of the mark.

However, there was controversy in the 86th minute when Onyango was sent off for committing a professional foul by pulling down Tshegofatso Nyama outside the box.

The reigning champions, despite being reduced to ten men, were able to hold on for their ninth victory of the season, keeping their perfect record intact.

TS Galaxy defeats Cape Town City 2-2.

At the Mbombela Stadium, TS Galaxy scored a late goal to force a 2-2 tie with Manchester City.

An action-packed opening to the game saw Mduduzi Mdantsane score a fantastic goal from distance to put City in the lead in the first minute of the game, only for Mxolisi Macuphu to equalize from close range just after the second minute.

As in the first half, a slew of chances fell to both teams, with City looking particularly dangerous. However, Nathan Fasika and Surprise Ralani's efforts were all unsuccessful, while Ethan Brooks had a chance saved by Hugo Marques at the opposite end before being substituted early in the second half.

After a 1-1 tie at halftime, the visitors would have been upset not to be in front of the home crowd.

Vasilije Kolak was unable to hold on to Lakay's shot in the 62nd minute, and Mdantsane scored from close range to put City back in ahead in the 62nd minute.

Galaxy equalized in the 89th minute, thanks to a goal from Wayde Lekay, who tapped in from close range after being set up by Marks Munyai's square pass. City would rue a number of squandered opportunities following the game.
