With a loss against Galaxy, the Pirates suffer a setback in their PSL campaign.
TS Galaxy held off an Orlando Pirates onslaught to win 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Monday afternoon in a DStv Premiership match.
Lefa Hlongwane scored the only goal of the game.
Galaxy now sits in 13th place on the log with 26 points from 27 games, while Pirates are still in fourth place with 40 points after 27 games.
In the first half, the Buccaneers enjoyed far more possession and scoring opportunities than the hosts, with Thembinkosi Lorch, Terence Dzvukamanja, and joyful Jele all missing opportunities.
Innocent Maela came the closest to scoring for Pirates when a cross from Deon Hotto was heading towards goal in the 25th minute, but he was prevented by the crossbar.
Then, against the run of play, Galaxy's Lefa Hlongwane scored a low shot to the right after receiving an assist from Lindokuhle Mbatha in the 33rd minute to give his team a 1-0 lead.
The first half ended with the home team leading 1-0.
Galaxy had a chance to score shortly after the restart when Mbatha passed to Orebotse Mongae, who blasted a goal-bound effort that was stopped by Bucs goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
Galaxy had an opportunity a few minutes later when Sphiwe Mahlangu blasted a long-range shot at the Bucs goal, but it went wide to the right.
Pirates to their credit really upped the ante in attack, chasing the equaliser and had many goal attempts either going wide,
Mosele, Dzvukamanja, Kwame Peprah, Bandile Shandu, Zakhele Lepasa, and Fortune Makaringe have all been blocked or saved.
Bathusi Aubaas, on the other hand, tried his luck with two efforts for Galaxy, but both went wide.
But, despite their best efforts, Pirates were unable to equalize, and Galaxy held on for a 1-0 victory and crucial three points, lifting them out of the relegation zone for the time being.
