Ngcongca had recently left Sundowns for AmaZulu and his number 16 jersey was allocated to Aubrey Modiba, but the former SuperSport United attacking player will now be wearing jersey number 37 since the club is planning on retiring Ngcongca's number.
A club official told SowetanLive that “The fact that Modiba has already played an official match in a different number to the one that he started the season with is a clear indication that they want to retire the number.
“It is also clear that they have already engaged the league and there were approvals because you can’t just change numbers as you want. Expect an announcement after the funeral.”
KRC Genk were the first club that took it upon themselves to retire Ngcongca's jersey number 16 after he spent a lot of successful years with them in Belgium.
