Al Ahly Progresses to Champions League Group Stages

The reigning and defending champions of CAF Champions League Al Ahly were in action on Saturday evening as they took on against the Nigerian outfit USGN, and the reigning champions proved to be the most dominant side as they easily defeated the Nigerians by 6-1 on the second leg match of the CAF preliminary rounds. This was a much needed win for the reds as they were recently punished by the club president after they lost the Egyptian cup and the Egyptian Premier League as they slashed their salaries.

Both Pitso Mosimane and the entire team of had to work hard to deliver results on this match especially since they were trending negatively on Egyptian media because of the level of performance that was displayed by the club, and the 57 year old Mosimane was heavily criticised for failing to stir Al Ahly to the best results that are suitable to everyone.

The Al Ahly supporters are always known to demand so much from the team and with just one slight mistake the coach and his technical team will be blamed dismally even though it's the players who fail to deliver when it matters. But on Saturday evening it must be said that it was a night of joy in Cairo especially since Al Ahly played to a 0-0 draw against USGN when they played away in Nigeria and they needed maximum results when they hosted the Nigerian side in Cairo.

The South African football universe will need to wait a while longer before they see Percy Tau making his debut fit Al Ahly, but even during his absence the reds contained to deliver much needed results as they hammered USGN by 6-1. This is what Al Ahly is known for, they show no mercy against their opponents in CAF Champions League competitions.
