A few days ago, news following The MEC of community safety, Albert Fritz being suspended and also stepping down as the leader of the DA made headlines. The reasons behind the latter were a bit unclear at the time.
In recent reports, it has become clear that the MEC of Community Safety has several sexual harassment claims against him.
It has been alleged that young people who worked in Fritz's office have come forth to give more insight on the allegations of sexual assault, these allegations date back from 2021.
Four of the MEC's accomplices were also suspended in relation to the sexual allegations as they are also accused of protecting and covering up the MEC's conduct.
According to the Premier of the West Cape Alan Winde, he became aware of the MEC's conduct last year November as a third party approached him and shed some light on the matter. Winde says he then requested affidavits from the victims of the MEC's conduct in order to take further action. The victims have since been afforded due care, empathy and a safe space.
Members of the ANC are evidently angered by Fritz's conduct as he was given the duty to protect the community and create a safe environment in which women and children can live without fear, instead he abused his power and chose to molest/sexually harass young women in exchange for job opportunities.
Investigations with regards to these allegations are still underway.
