Ladysmith is a city in the Uthukela District of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It lies 230 kilometres north-west of Durban and 365 kilometres south-east of Johannesburg. Important industries in the area include food processing, textiles, and tyre production.
Over the past week, Torrential rains in KwaZulu-Natal have caused severe damage to homes, infrastructure and businesses. At least so far one person has been confirmed dead. The Klip River burst its banks on Thursday flooding lower parts of the town in the Alfred Duma Local Municipality. The SA Weather Service forecasts partly cloudy conditions for Ladysmith area until Wednesday.
Dozens of people have been relocated from their homes in the KwaZulu-Natal town of Ladysmith after heavy rains left streets and homes flooded.
This inclement weather affected 2 068 households and people. At least 773 houses were totally destroyed, and 2 095 houses were partially destroyed. Twenty five people lost their lives as a result of lightning and drowning incidents and one person was still missing.
